The Black American writer passed away at the age of 88 in Montefiore Medical Center in New York on Monday night. The genius who created works like Beloved (1987), Song of Solomon (1977) and The Bluest Eye (1970).
The towering novelist is famous for dramatising the Black American experience in a career spanning over six decades. Her impeccable discipline and unconditional commitment to Black people saw her produce some of the finest written pieces in the history of literature; she completed 11 novels, five children’s books, two plays, a song cycle and an opera.
Prof Morrison worked tirelessly, teaching/mentoring generations of Black writers and went on to score notable accolades and further cementing her place in the pantheon of great innovators of the modern era.
