iLiso's Weekend Gig Guide



13th Sept. - 15th Sept.


CAPE TOWN- iLiso team has compiled a short list of some of the dopest things taking place in the Mother City over the next 3 days. Although the weather forecast suggests that the City will be relatively wet and mostly cloudy, it still promises to be a great weekend for the Arts.


13th:


Jam Session- Musicians Bonolo Nkoane and Athi Ngcaba will be jamming at The Drawing Room Cafe (87 Station Road, Observatory) from 7PM. Only R20 gets you in.


African Acoustic Night- Musician Sylvestre Kabassidi and Cafe Ganesh (38 B Trill Road, corner of Lower Main Road, Obs) will host a "[a] night of African folk stories through song" to kick start their weekend. Catch Kabassidi live from 7 PM – 9 PM.

14th:


Ghetto Sessions- The Ghetto Sessions is a great space for 'fashionistas', 'foodies', and music lovers. In this installment they feature music acts such as The Shabs, Babalwa Zimbini Embo Makwetu & Band, Androgenius, Sizakele INdlulamthizm Gegana. The session starts at 1PM til 5PM. You are kindly asked to bring a donation as little as R20 or more.


Lynn Rudolph's Fundraising Concert- YoungBlood Gallery (70-72 Bree St, Cape Town) will host musician/instrumentalist Lynn Rudolph's fundraising concert. She will be enrolling for a Master's degree in Birmingham but needs more money to help cover living expenses. Other artists that have been featured in the line-up include Dylan Tabisher, Marimbirance, New Voice Sextet, Zen, The Grey Duo. Tickets are available on Quicket or at the door for R350 per person. The show starts at 7:30PM til 10 PM.





Iqhayiya Fashion Show - Hlazo Village, in Nyanga East, will host the first installment of Iqhayiya Fashion Show from 1 AM – 7 PM. The show is imagined as a township space for showcasing works by local designers as well as an evening for great music and connecting models with the scene's emerging local fashion designers.


15th:


Nationality Album Launch- The Cape Town band Kujenga will host the official launch of their beautiful debut album, Nationality, at Youngblood Arts and Culture Development from 4 PM – 8 PM. Zwide Ndwandwe (bassist from Kujenga) announced on his Facebook page that "[p]roceeds from the Kujenga Official Album Launch will be donated to Rape Crisis Centre in Cape Town". Tickets are R70 at the door.
